Brief

Oded Liphshitz is a playwright and director, born and Haifa, Israel, 1981. Graduated with excellence from the Tel Aviv University Theatre Department, where he later became a directing and playwriting teacher. He also earned a Masters in Fine Arts in Directing from Tel Aviv University, studied Playwriting at the New School for Drama in New York, and has a Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher Certificate from Wingate College, 2022. 

Oded has worked as an assistant director for renowned directors such as Bernard Murat, Krzysztof Warlikowski, and Włodzimierz Staniewski, among others. He is a freelance mindfulness instructor and a playwright and was a director of the Jewish Texts creative ensemble at Midrash Bama (2009-2014) were he and the ensemble transromed Jewish texts into theatrical events by a process of study and recreation.

As a playwright and director, Oded has written and directed various plays that have been staged and acclaimed in Israel, Europe, and the United States. Some of his most notable productions include “Albert,” which won the 2012 Bernstein Prize for literature and was produced as an Opera (BZA 2017),  “The light turns up on me,” which won the Best Play Award at the Beit-lessin Open-stage festival in 2010, His play Shirat Elor is expectetd to be produced in Haifa Theatre 2024, he is currently writing a new screenplay commissioned by the Israeli Film Fund.

Oded has also received awards and recognition for his work in the theatre industry, including the 2013 Israeli Lottery Foundation for Culture and Art Writing Grant, the 2010/11 Excellence Scholarship Dean, and the 2007 1st place in the Playwriting contest at Tel Aviv University. His work has been published in “Theatre: a Quarterly for contemporary art,” among other publications.
